Gr 5 Up—If you are looking for an aerial view of New York City without taking a helicopter ride, this is the film for you. For almost an hour, the viewer is shown various aerial views of the metropolis at different times of day with an appropriate, and excellent, musical score to fit the mood. There is very little dialogue, but major buildings and roadways are pointed out. Highlights include the Flatiron Building, the Chrysler Building, Rockefeller Center, Brooklyn Bridge, Wall Street, Frances Tavern, Ground Zero, and more. The film is somewhat dated, as the site of the Freedom Tower is shown as a construction zone, but otherwise, all the historic buildings are still standing. This program is appropriate for older students or adults looking for a quick overview of New York City, particularly Manhattan, since there is very little emphasis on the outer boroughs.
VERDICT Great video for an aerial overview of New York City, but more appropriate as a background to an actual tour.
