PreS-Gr 1–In the latest installment of the
“Ty’s Travels” series, Ty’s love of superheroes sparks another heartwarming adventure. When he finds a makeshift cape and mask in his closet, Ty becomes Super Ty—ready to save the day! From helping a man with the grocery store door, to encouraging a nervous boy on the slide, and even finding Momma’s missing keys, Ty uses his imagination and kindness to make a difference. But when he and his older brother lose a paper airplane in a tree, not even Super Ty can solve the problem—until a surprise hero swoops in to help, reminding Ty that, “Being a superhero is fun. But having a super brother is even better.” Lyons’s simple narrative patterning, repeated phrases like “He saves the day,” and gentle conflict make this an ideal choice for emerging readers. The accessible language, large font, and generous spacing support early literacy skills, while Mata’s cheerful, energetic illustrations add charm and context throughout. All characters are Black. A joyful, empowering early reader, this strong series entry celebrates imagination, family, and small acts of heroism.
VERDICT An excellent addition to beginning reader collections.
