PreS-K—Eric Hill's Spot and his family have been delighting young children for more than 30 years. In this new DVD release of a previously published VHS version (Disney, 1998) of the title story, Spot spends some quality time with his grandparents. First Spot and his grandparents look through some old photos of Spot's mother, Sally, when she was a pup. Next, they clean up Grandpa's old fire engine to ride in the carnival parade. Spot's friends join him as they set off for the carnival, but on the way they come across the carnival band stranded by a flat tire. Spot saves the day by suggesting the band ride on the fire truck in the parade. The story represents a child's perfect day, full of friends, family, and a bit of adventure. The feature is artfully animated, with attention to detail—from Spot's wagging tale to the ever-changing expression on the pet cat's face. The audio is performed by a full cast of talented voice actors who sing several original songs. There are also two new, shorter episodes not included in the original release. In one, Spot goes on a walk with his Grandfather, and in the other, Spot helps his grandmother clean the house. Parents who grew up with Spot will be glad to share this classic adventure with their own children.—Donna Cardon, Provo City Library, UT
