Toddler-Gr 1–In a family of anthropomorphized corgis, Max and Mama start the day with blueberry pancakes and a bike ride. There is a minor catastrophe when Max’s training wheels break, but Max perseveres and rides on without them. Then home to dinner with Papa, taking a bath, and bedtime. Youngest readers will enjoy the easy comfort of a day of relaxation with a beloved parent. Though the story is one-note, its warm illustrations of a loving, doggy family may make a nice bedtime story for home use, but it is not a strong contender for collections.
VERDICT A pleasant but dull reader for young children and their caretakers.
