Love Letters: An Alphabet of Affirmations

PreS-K–A 26-letter poem of positivity fills this inspirational board book. Each alphabet letter is expressed in one or more words of affirmation, such as amazing, dynamic, imaginative, radiant, and questioning. The only slightly less upbeat M-N combination—“Mighty, magnificent, messy./ But it’s not necessary to be neat all the time”—provides a bit of a break from the dizzying array of wonderfulness. A dozen or so different fonts, all which appear to be hand-drawn, are used in various combinations to illustrate the words. Backgrounds and borders add visual interest, and each is keyed to the concept, e.g. the word unique is surrounded by colorful fingerprints. A simple color scheme of blue, pink, and yellow is used effectively throughout. Though the vocabulary is unusual for board books, the message makes it worth it: “I will tell you a zillion, zillion times how amazing you are.”
