Gr 3-6–In this collection of 12 natural wonders, readers get a bird’s eye view of some of the most magnificent places on the planet. Through colorful digital illustrations, readers get an aerial perspective of some perennial favorites, as well as some sights that might be unfamiliar. Each spread provides a brief introduction, informational captions, and an inset map showing its relative location. Readers can go deeper by finding unique elements in each picture. While global coverage is adequate, not all locations meet the criteria of natural wonder. Spreads on Lapland and Alaska, although informative, seem too broad in scope. At their best, these visual representations offer a full look at some awe-inspiring places. Others are so crowded with additional material that readers might wonder why these places are included in this volume. A lack of back matter or additional resources is also problematic when considering the limited information provided on each spread.
VERDICT For some readers, this will be an adequate jumping off point for future research. An additional purchase for larger collections.
