For our cover story on APA creators of myth and folklore, we turned to Yao Xiao, a New York-based cartoonist and illustrator. This is her third cover for School Library Journal. 

"Welcome to one of the more hope-filled, albeit cautious, Asian Pacific American (APA) Heritage Months in recent history," stated Terry Hong in our May 2022 cover story "TImeless Tales: APA Creators Draw on Myth and Folklore to Craft Personal, yet Universal Stories."

For APAs, the reemergence from COVID coincided with a rise in anti-Asian hate.

Highlighting the universality of Asian American literature for kids and teens, Hong recommended "45 Books Drawing on Asian Myth and Folklore" published over the last decade.
