In this ode to motherhood, the children of vampires, mummies, werewolves, and sea creatures are shown to be just like human kids. These children skin their knees, get tummy aches, and have bad dreams, and they all depend on their moms to help them feel better. Fathers are mentioned as well, but the focus here is on mothers and the many ways they show love to their children, no matter the species. Simple, rhyming text makes this Halloween-themed title accessible for new and emerging readers. Paulo’s colorful cartoon-like illustrations are fun to look at and show a softer side of monsters.
VERDICT Monsters moms are the focus of this sweet read-aloud. Recommended for libraries looking to expand their Halloween collections.
